A classic of Indian cuisine, chicken tikka masala is a creamy, tomato-based dish made with roasted, marinated chicken, and aromatic spices, typically eaten with naan (flatbread) or rice. It’s absolutely delicious, but if you’re short on time, it’s not the easiest dish to whip up… Unless you use one secret ingredient: pasta sauce!

Chicken Tikka Masala Recipe Using Pasta Sauce

  1. Rinse rice under cold water to remove excess starch.
  2. Combine 2 cups water and 1 cup rice in saucepan. If desired, add 1 tsp. olive oil and ½ tsp. salt. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and cover. Simmer gently 40 to 45 minutes.
  3. While the rice is cooking, prepare the chicken tikka masala.
  4. Heat oil in a pot, then add garlic, ginger, and your spices. Allow them to bloom and release their oils, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Add the chicken and cook until the chicken is cooked through, then add in 1/2 to 3/4 jar of the Organic Arrabbiata Pasta Sauce (more or less depending on how much sauce you’d like).
  6. Mix and let all the flavors marry for 7 to 10 minutes on medium high.
  7. Turn the heat to low, drizzle in the cream (reserving a tablespoon for garnish), cover, and let the chicken cook completely through for an additional 5 to 7 minutes until the oil separates from the sauce.
  8. Remove the rice from heat and let stand, covered, 5 minutes or until water is absorbed. Fluff with a fork and serve.
  9. Plate the rice and chicken tikka masala, garnishing with a drizzle of cream, freshly chopped cilantro, and a side of naan or pita bread.
